BAU: A 17-year-old boy with an intellectual disability has been reported missing after leaving his home in Kampung Duyoh here on June 1.
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the teenager, identified as Kasli Senon, was last seen leaving the family home at about 2 pm carrying a small bag of clothes without informing anyone of his destination.
“His father, a farmer, said Kasli, who is the youngest of five siblings and a student at the Special Education Programme of SMK Bau, has not returned home since.
“Efforts to contact him have also been unsuccessful as his mobile phone has been switched off.
“Initial police investigations revealed that Kasli is a person with disabilities (PwD) under the intellectual disability category and has a history of leaving home to follow friends from other villages,” he said.
Family members told police it was common for Kasli to leave home on Fridays and return on Sundays in time for school on Monday.
Mohd Haide said family members were often unable to determine his whereabouts as he would usually refuse to answer questions about his movements.
“On the day of the incident, Kasli’s father noticed him leaving the house, and when asked where he was going, the teenager did not respond and walked away quickly.
“His sister attempted to follow him but was unable to catch up.”
Further investigations found that Kasli only had one close friend in the village, a schoolmate and relative named Mateus.
However, inquiries with the friend did not provide any information on the teenager’s whereabouts.
The family has confirmed that there were no disputes or arguments at home prior to his disappearance.
Police have since recorded the father’s statement, visited the location, obtained the latest photograph of the missing teenager for circulation and tasked detectives with gathering information and tracing his whereabouts.
The case remains under investigation.
