KUCHING: Sarawak boxing team manager, Datuk Johnny Ting Su King, is confident that the state’s boxers will be able to deliver medals for the Sarawak contingent at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor.
He said this confidence is based on a squad made up of both experienced boxers and promising newcomers.
Johnny believes the combination of youth and experience will serve as an added advantage in achieving the team’s medal targets.
“We are confident in the ability of the boxers selected for the biennial Games to contribute medals to the Sarawak contingent.
“Preparations are progressing smoothly and we hope this will serve as an added motivation for us to witness some positive surprises,” Johnny told Sarawak Tribune.
The list of boxers representing Sarawak at the Games is now almost complete.
A total of 11 boxers will be selected for SUKMA Selangor 2026, scheduled from August 15 to 24.
At present, 10 boxers have already been confirmed, with only one remaining slot still to be filled.
Of the current lineup, seven are male boxers and three are female boxers.
The men’s squad consists of Azriq Syakirin Azfarizan (51kg), Khairil Hazami Sulam (54kg), Muhammad Irfan Mohamad Ishak (57kg), Davis Beckham Mit (60kg), Lam Wee Liang (63.5kg), Marcos Robert (71kg) and Anderton Tie Teck Hieng (75kg).
The women’s squad consists of Patricia Jaquilina Bruce (48kg), Clavia Charlene Sudang (52kg) and Hamiesha Hamdan (57kg).
“The current list of boxers was finalised following the selection trials held recently,” Johnny added.
He said the final slot in the squad will only be decided after the conclusion of the Sarawak International Boxing Championship 2026, which will be held in Miri from June 23 to 28.
“Two boxers, Riq Roland and Abraham Samuel Jerry, are still under final evaluation for the 67kg category.
“The final selection for SUKMA 2026 will be confirmed after the Miri championship,” he said.
