SIBU: Three families, including four children, were left homeless after fire gutted their home at Kampung Jeriah Abang Ramli along Jalan Oya here Sunday (June 7).

The blaze, which broke out at around 11.30am, completely destroyed the non-permanent two-storey structure.

Fortunately, all 19 occupants, aged between four and 65, managed to escape unharmed.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Sungai Merah and Sibu Jaya stations were deployed to the scene following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, the team used water from a nearby hydrant and an open water source, deploying multiple water jets to bring the blaze under control.

They also prevented the flames from spreading to neighbouring houses.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred have yet to be determined.
