KUCHING: A 68-year-old man with an intellectual disability was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to committing mischief by throwing a stone at a van travelling along Jalan Batu Kawa.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali imposed the sentence on Bujang Sanusi after he admitted to the charge.
It is understood that a psychiatric assessment report found the accused fit to stand trial.
According to the charge, he was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for damaging a Toyota Hiace van belonging to a 40-year-old woman, causing losses amounting to RM900.
He committed the offence by the roadside at Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, Jalan Batu Kawa, at about 7.25 pm on July 5, 2025.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant was driving through the village road when her van was suddenly struck by a stone.
The impact shattered the passenger-side window, resulting in losses estimated at RM900.
A police report was lodged by the complainant, leading to the accused’s arrest on July 9, 2025.
Investigations revealed that the accused had intentionally thrown a stone at the victim’s vehicle.
In addition, an identification parade confirmed the accused as the person responsible for the act.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while the accused was unrepresented.
