KUCHING: Police arrested a local man in connection with an armed gang robbery that took place by the roadside along Jalan Song Thian Cheok here late last month.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident was reported on May 31, with police receiving information about the robbery at around midnight.
Acting on intelligence gathered, a police team arrested the suspect, who is in his 20s, on Monday (Jun 8).
Police also seized a white iPhone 13 believed to have been used in the commission of the crime to assist investigations.
The suspect, who has no prior record, has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years and may also be liable to whipping.
Alexson urged the public to remain vigilant and enhance security measures at their homes, including installing CCTV cameras and alarm systems, as well as ensuring doors and gates are locked, particularly at night.
