SIBURAN: A mother and her child escaped unharmed after a late-night fire destroyed their home at Kampung Sri Arjuna along Jalan Puncak Borneo here.
The blaze engulfed the single-storey semi-permanent house at around 11.05pm yesterday (Jun 9).
No injuries or casualties were reported as the occupants managed to escape safely before the fire spread through the structure.
Firefighters from Siburan station were dispatched to the scene, about 21km away, after receiving an emergency call.
Responders from Kota Sentosa and Tabuan Jaya stations also assisted in the operation.
Upon arrival, they found the house beyond saving and battled the blaze using multiple hose lines supplied by fire engines.
Due to the absence of fire hydrants within the village, crews had to replenish water supplies from outside the area and utilise stored water from a Kuching Water tank through a relay pumping operation spanning approximately 1,500 feet.
The isolated location of the house on a hilltop prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.
The flames were brought under control at 12.40am and overhaul work followed to ensure no further fire hazards remained.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation ended at 3.02am.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred have yet to be determined.
