KUCHING: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is intensifying its monitoring, supervision and prevention mechanisms across its educational institutions to ensure a safe learning environment and achieve its goal of zero bullying cases in all MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) and MARA Educational Institutions (IPMA).
Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said MARA maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of bullying and continues to implement proactive measures to safeguard students’ welfare and wellbeing.
She noted that bullying cases within MARA institutions remain under control and involve only isolated incidents, but preventive efforts are continuously being strengthened to eliminate the problem entirely.
“MARA’s position is clear, we reject all forms of bullying. Although past cases were isolated and limited in number, preventive and monitoring measures are constantly being enhanced across all MRSMs and IPMAs to ensure such incidents do not recur.”
She said this to the reporters after the 2025 SPM Outstanding Students Awards Presentation Ceremony and the presentation of Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (YPM) contributions to high-achieving students of MRSM Kuching on Wednesday (June10).
Rubiah said among the initiatives implemented are continuous awareness programmes aimed at educating students on the negative effects and consequences of bullying.
In addition, MARA has strengthened collaboration with parents to ensure students’ welfare and development can be monitored more effectively.
She stressed that active parental involvement plays a crucial role in helping educational institutions identify issues early before they affect students’ wellbeing.
Meanwhile, MARA has also enhanced its hostel supervision system through the appointment of full-time wardens dedicated specifically to student welfare and discipline.
According to her, the approach allows teachers and wardens to focus on their respective responsibilities, resulting in more effective student monitoring and support.
“Previously, teachers also served as wardens, but MARA now appoints full-time wardens, including former military personnel, to strengthen hostel supervision.
“This enables greater attention to be given to students’ discipline, safety and overall welfare.”
She added that MARA has its own monitoring mechanisms to detect and address any bullying incidents promptly.
Rubiah said the implementation of these measures reflects MARA’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe, supportive and harmonious educational environment, bringing the organisation closer to its target of achieving zero bullying cases across all its institutions.
