Woman hurt after car plunges into roadside drain

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local woman suffered a back injury after the Toyota Vios she was travelling in skidded and plunged into a roadside drain along Jalan Desa Ilmu near Masjid Desa Ilmu today (June 11).

The accident happened at around 11:30 am and involved two occupants, both of whom were rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived at the scene.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kota Samarahan station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the vehicle had overturned in a drain following the crash. As both victims had already been extricated, no rescue operations were required.

A 24-year-old Indonesian man escaped unhurt, while the injured 22-year-old was administered initial treatment before being taken to the Sarawak Heart Centre for further medical attention.

It was not known who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the rescue operations concluded at 11:58 am.
