KUCHING: Level Up Fitness believes its ability to adapt to local needs remains one of its key strengths as competition in the fitness industry continues to grow.

Founder, Kenny Sia, said the market has become increasingly competitive with the emergence of local and international gym operators, as well as independent fitness providers.

“There’s no monopoly here,” he said, describing growing competition as a natural part of market development.

Sia said Level Up Fitness does not view competition as a threat, but rather as motivation to continue improving its products and services.

“What Level Up has always had is the ability to tailor our products to the local market,” he told reporters recently.

According to Sia, this approach has enabled the company to introduce features that have become part of the brand’s identity, including flexible membership options and wider access across outlets.

Among the offerings are premium and express membership packages, with premium members enjoying access to multiple outlets and additional facilities.

He noted that Level Up Fitness was among the early adopters of 24-hour gym access in East Malaysia at a time when the concept was still relatively new.

The company also introduced ladies-only workout areas to create a more comfortable environment for women and newcomers to fitness.

Sia said Level Up has moved away from rigid long-term contracts, opting instead for more flexible membership arrangements.

“In Level Up, in knowing the local market we say contract doesn’t suit people here, let’s do away with contracts. So we did away with contracts. You can join a gym for three months or six months or one year if you want to.

“There’s a discount if you pay one year upfront. So those are all innovations tailored to the local market, and it just so happens that this tailoring was also what made Level Up stand out and become attractive to the market outside,” he added.

Level Up Fitness currently operates about 20 outlets across Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, while continuing to focus on accessibility and community-based fitness services.
