BETONG: A 64-year-old man was killed while his passenger suffered serious injuries after a Perodua Axia car they were travelling in crashed into a road divider at the P-Turn junction in Tanjung Skrang today.
The impact left both men trapped inside the wreckage, prompting rescue operations by firefighters from Betong station at around 1:45 pm.
Rescuers found the severely damaged vehicle upon arriving at the scene and immediately began efforts to extricate the victims.
Paramedics pronounced the driver, identified as Liang Sait, dead at the scene and his body was later handed over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, his passenger, a 30-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated using hydraulic rescue equipment.
He was given initial treatment at the scene and later transported to Betong Hospital for further care.
Firefighters later conducted flushing works to ensure the safety of road users before ending the operation at 3.20 pm.
