KUCHING: Sarawakians must seize opportunities provided by the government instead of waiting for assistance if they wish to progress alongside the state’s development agenda.
Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said achieving the aspirations outlined under the vision of a prosperous and developed Sarawak by 2030 requires both government support and active participation from the people.
Representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, he said this during the closing of the Sarawak Malay Graduates Convention (KGM) 2.0 at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Batu Lintang here today (June 11).
Drawing an analogy between a family and the state, Fazzrudin said leaders play the role of parents who must provide opportunities, education and support to ensure the wellbeing and success of their children.

He said the state government has continued to strengthen its revenue through strategic initiatives, enabling it to introduce various programmes that directly benefit the people, including free tertiary education, scholarships, training assistance and welfare support.
“These initiatives are investments in our people, particularly the younger generation, so they can improve their lives and contribute back to Sarawak,” he said.
However, he stressed that government assistance alone would not guarantee success if individuals failed to take advantage of the opportunities available.
“There are those who constantly seek opportunities to improve themselves, while others simply wait and expect help to come to them. We must be among those who are willing to strive and work for success,” he said.
He also encouraged youths to continuously equip themselves with knowledge, skills and training, noting that complacency and laziness remain among the greatest barriers to personal development.
Fazzrudin said the convention’s theme, ‘Harapan Dan Realiti Sarawak Maju 2030’, serves as a reminder that achieving future aspirations requires collective effort, resilience and a willingness to embrace opportunities for growth.
