THE HAGUE, the Netherlands: At least seven people were injured early this morning after an explosion triggered a fire at a building in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, Xinhua reported, citing local media.
According to the Dutch public broadcaster, NOS, the blast occurred at approximately 00:15 local time (2215 GMT on Thursday) in an outbuilding of an apartment complex that houses a 24-hour gym.
A fire broke out immediately after the blast and spread to the apartment building, causing around 400 nearby residents to be evacuated.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and authorities have yet to determine how many people were inside the building at the time.
The fire was extinguished hours later, and rescuers are searching for additional victims. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
