BAU: Cable thieves have struck a quarry in Krokong, making off with electrical wiring used to power essential equipment in a brazen theft discovered during a morning inspection on Saturday (June 13).

A 57-year-old caretaker uncovered the theft along Jalan Bidi after finding two electrical extension cables missing within the quarry compound.

The stolen items were identified as a 10-metre cable connected to a water pump and a 20-metre cable linked to a generator, with losses estimated at RM110.

Despite the premises being fenced, locked and illuminated by solar-powered lighting at night, the culprit or culprits managed to remove the cables without being detected.

Bau police chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the quarry, located near a residential village area, was not equipped with a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system.

A police report was lodged after the discovery, and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.

Efforts are underway to track down the suspect or suspects and recover the stolen property.
