KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local man was taken into custody for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during overnight anti-drunk driving operations.

Carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, ‘Ops Mabuk’ took place along Jalan La Promenade from 11.50 pm on Friday (June 12) until 4 am on Saturday (June 13).

A total of 67 vehicles and 70 individuals were screened throughout the operations.

Kota Samarahan police said three motorists underwent preliminary alcohol screening using the SD2+ alcohol detection device.

Results found one of them – a 33-year-old – testing positive for alcohol, while the other two tested negative.

The SD2+ device is used by enforcement authorities for rapid preliminary detection of alcohol in a driver’s system before further action is taken under the law.

In the same operations, traffic police also issued 25 traffic summonses for various offences detected during inspections.

Police stated that similar operations will be intensified from time to time as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, enhance compliance with traffic laws and reduce accidents caused by drunk driving.
