Agong’s birthday celebration in Betong highlights unity and tradition

BETONG: The Tea Reception held in conjunction with the Sarawak-level celebration of the Official Birthday of His Majesty the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong was marked by tradition and a strong spirit of unity at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Indoor Stadium today (June 14).

The event was graced by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Also in attendance was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Prior to the reception, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah visited the ‘Raja Kita’ Exhibition, which showcased the history and role of Malaysia’s royal institution.

The celebration was further enlivened by a ceremonial cutting of pulut kuning and the presentation of assistance to 50 recipients from the Betong area.

The recipients, who are registered under the Sarawak Welfare Department (JKM) Betong Division, received aid under various welfare schemes, including General Assistance, Senior Citizens Assistance, Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Unable to Work, Disabled Workers Allowance, Bedridden Patient Care Assistance and Children’s Assistance.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were opening dance performances, a choral speaking presentation and musical performances by local artists.

Among those present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar; Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai; Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; and Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Also present was State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki.
