KUCHING: Police have arrested a local man last Sunday (Jun 14) in connection with the alleged rape of a teenage girl in an apartment here.
The case came to light after a 43-year-old woman lodged a police report on Jun 10, alleging that her 16-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted at an apartment in the district.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), acting on intelligence, arrested the 45-year-old suspect along Jalan Simpang Tiga.
Further checks found that the suspect has no prior criminal record, while a urine screening test returned negative for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Upon conviction, the offence provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 20 years, as well as whipping.
