BINTANGOR: Three first-time offenders, including a woman, landed in police custody after testing positive for drugs during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ yesterday (Jun 15).
The local suspects, aged between 23 and 30, were detained by the district police task force at around 3.20pm and taken to the Meradong district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said urine screening tests conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) found all of them positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Checks on their backgrounds found that none of them had any prior criminal or drug-related records.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
Tansli said police remain firm in tackling drug-related offences and will not compromise on efforts to curb the menace in the community.
