KUALA LUMPUR: About 5,000 local and international guests will gather at Putra Mosque in Putrajaya this morning for the National Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration.
Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, is scheduled to grace and officiate the event, themed ‘MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati’, which will begin at 9:00 am.
Deputy Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Cabinet ministers, foreign representatives, heads of departments and senior government officials are also expected to attend.
A key highlight of the event will be the Sultan’s royal address, followed by the presentation of the National and International Tokoh Maal Hijrah Awards.
The prestigious awards recognise individuals who meet a set of criteria, including extensive knowledge in their respective fields, exemplary character and outstanding contributions to the advancement of Islam at both the domestic and international levels.
According to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), this year’s theme was chosen to encourage Muslims to embrace the spirit of Prophet Muhammad SAW’s Hijrah, which marked the beginning of the development of Islamic civilisation.
A new addition to this year’s celebration was the Tausiyyah @ Maal Hijrah programme held at Putra Mosque on Tuesday, focusing on tadabbur (reflection) of Quranic verses and encouraging Muslims to view Hijrah as a catalyst for positive change.
The programme enabled participants not only to listen to Quran recitations by distinguished qari, but also to understand the messages, wisdom and guidance contained in the verses and apply them in their daily lives.
As a follow-up programme, the National and International Tokoh Maal Hijrah Lecture 1448H/2026 will be held tomorrow (Thursday, June 18) at the Putrajaya Islamic Complex Auditorium from 9:00 am, providing award recipients with an opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences. – BERNAMA
