KUCHING: Eleven roads in the city centre will be temporarily closed tomorrow and Saturday (Jun 19 and 20) to facilitate the ‘Niti Daun’ parade held in conjunction with the state-level Gawai Dayak Celebration at Kuching Waterfront.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the closures are necessary to ensure the smooth running of the programme and to manage traffic flow throughout the event.
The roads will be closed from 12pm to 6pm on Jun 19 during the rehearsals, and from 10am to 6pm on Jun 20 for the main programme.
They are Lebuh Java, Jalan Market/Jalan Gambier, Jalan Old Court House, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg/Jalan Carpenter, Jalan Lebuh Wayang/Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Main Bazaar/Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, junction of Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Cat Statue), Jalan Chan Chin Ann, traffic lights at Jalan Abell (Lemon Tree), Jalan Abell Utara and the roundabout at Sri Aman/Jalan Abell entrance.
Alexson advised members of the public not to park their vehicles along the affected roads and to plan their journeys in advance by using alternative routes to minimise traffic congestion.
