KUCHING: A student from Betong who once struggled with disappointment over his SPM results has emerged as one of Sarawak’s top STPM 2025 achievers, earning a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00.

Muhammad Amzarul Fikri Salleh of SMK Spaoh said the achievement was not solely the result of his own efforts, but a reflection of the unwavering support and belief shown by his parents and teachers throughout his academic journey.

“This success is not for me alone. It belongs to my parents and teachers who never stopped believing in me.

“I studied not only for myself, but also to repay their sacrifices and for the sake of Allah,” he said when met after the announcement of the STPM 2025 results at SMK Tun Abang Haji Openg here today (June 18).

Amzarul revealed that he struggled with disappointment following his SPM results and nearly gave up on his studies.

The challenges continued during his first semester of STPM, testing his determination even further.

However, words of encouragement from a teacher who assured him of his potential became a turning point, reigniting his confidence and motivating him to persevere.

“From that moment, I was determined to work harder and prove that their faith in me was not misplaced,” he said.

One of the most meaningful sacrifices came from his mother, who regularly stayed up until 1:00 am to accompany him while he studied.

According to Amzarul, her dedication became a constant source of strength and motivation throughout his preparation for the examination.

Now, the sixth of seven siblings hopes to pursue higher education in History and dreams of continuing his academic journey at university.

He also hopes his story will inspire other students who may be struggling with setbacks or self-doubt.

“Never give up. Sometimes other people can see your potential before you see it yourself,” he said.
