KUCHING: Sarawak recorded an encouraging improvement in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination, with the state’s overall performance showing notable gains across several key indicators.

A total of 5,259 candidates sat for the examination, representing 96.67 per cent of the 5,440 registered candidates statewide, while participation levels remained consistently strong.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the state’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) improved by 0.07 points, rising from 2.68 in 2024 to 2.75 in 2025.

“We are pleased to announce that the STPM 2025 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for Sarawak has increased by 0.07 points, rising from 2.68 in 2024 to 2.75 in 2025.”

He said this in his speech at a press conference on the STPM result announcement at the meeting room of the ministry on Friday (June 19).

The improvement was accompanied by an increase in the number of candidates achieving a perfect CGPA of 4.00, which rose to 115 candidates from 92 recorded in the previous year.

“Two candidates successfully obtained 5As in all subjects taken, a significant achievement after no candidates managed to attain the feat in 2024.”

The number of candidates obtaining 4As also increased from 91 in 2024 to 110 in 2025, reflecting continued excellence among Form Six students across the state.

“Out of 5,259 candidates who sat for the examination, 5,257 candidates, or 99.96 per cent, qualified for the STPM certificate.”

Sagah said all 22 subjects offered in Sarawak recorded full passing rates exceeding 60 per cent, with Accounting and Information and Communications Technology maintaining a perfect 100 per cent passing rate.

“Arabic recorded the most significant improvement compared with the previous year, while Syariah, History and Biology also registered encouraging increases in full passing performance.”

He further highlighted that 52 out of 79 schools improved their school CGPA compared with 2024, demonstrating positive progress across Sarawak’s education landscape.

Sagah also announced that Kolej Tingkatan Enam Saratok was recognised as the National Best Form Six Centre STPM 2025 for the Form Six College category, while SMK Sacred Heart, Sibu received the national award for the Mode 2 and Mode 3 category.
