KUCHING: Economic uncertainties have not dampened Yayasan PEKEMA’s commitment to giving back to society, with plans underway to expand its welfare programmes to more communities across Sarawak.

Sarawak Association of Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders (PEKEMA) president Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi said the organisation’s outreach efforts would continue to grow despite the challenging economic and business environment.

He said Yayasan PEKEMA would not only maintain its existing initiatives but also extend assistance to other areas across the state.

“Insya-Allah, this effort will not stop here. In the next few weeks, we plan to continue distributing aid packages to several other areas across Sarawak so that more people in need can benefit from PEKEMA’s care and contributions,” he said.

He was speaking at the ‘Majlis Ngiling Bidai PEKEMA Sarawak 2026’ held at a hotel here last night (June 20).

Ismail, who is also Yayasan PEKEMA Sarawak chairman, acknowledged that the current economic landscape has posed various challenges to businesses, with conditions differing from previous years.

However, he said these challenges had not weakened the resolve of PEKEMA members to continue sharing their resources and supporting the community.

“Compassion and the spirit of helping those in need remain the driving force behind PEKEMA’s social responsibility efforts.

“We believe that the blessings we receive become more meaningful when they are shared with those who are less fortunate,”he said.

He added that Yayasan PEKEMA remained committed to its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, particularly in supporting the B40 group.

Various forms of assistance have been channelled, including medical aid, educational support and other welfare programmes aimed at easing the burden of those in need regardless of race, religion or background.

During the event, Yayasan PEKEMA also presented symbolic contributions in the form of food baskets to representatives from the Kapit parliamentary constituency.

Financial assistance was also extended to seven selected churches across Sarawak as part of its continued efforts to support local communities.
