BAU: An inspection at a quarry here exposed two immigration offences, leading to the arrest of two Indonesian labourers yesterday (Jun 23).

One was accused of overstaying his legal entry into Malaysia and the other of sneaking into the country through an illegal border crossing.

Their arrests were made at around 1.05pm during ‘Ops Tiris’, carried out by the General Operations Force (GOF) 11th Battalion’s Intelligence Branch at Tamar Quarry Sdn Bhd, Mount Sta’at.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the raid initially focused on inspecting a skid tank containing diesel at the quarry.

“However, officers found no wrongdoing after the company produced a valid permit and supporting documents issued by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) for the fuel storage.

“Further inspections at the quarry led police to two Indonesian workers, aged 37 and 43, who failed to produce valid travel documents, prompting their arrest,” he said.

Initial investigations found that the younger suspect had entered Malaysia legally through the Biawak Immigration checkpoint in Lundu in 2021, but failed to renew his passport when his permitted stay expired.

The older suspect, meanwhile, admitted to entering Malaysia through an illegal route in Biawak border area in 2025 and had been residing in the country without any valid travel documents.

Mohd Haide said police also seized three phones, an Indonesian passport and an Indonesian identity card from them.

Both suspects were later handed over to the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 6(1) of the same Act for entering and remaining in Malaysia without valid travel documents.
