SERIAN: Delays in the implementation of development projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) are largely due to the need to comply with established procedures.
Addressing concerns over the pace of project execution in Bidayuh areas, Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah stressed that approved projects must undergo several stages before physical work can begin.
“If there are delays in the implementation of projects in Bidayuh areas, it is because the projects require many processes, such as design approvals and tender procedures,” he said at the launch of the Bidayuh Cultural Centre in Bau on Monday.
Sagah who is GKCDA chairman explained that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in project implementation, adding that all approved projects must go through open tender processes conducted by the relevant agencies.
“As we do not want to be accused of abusing our authority, all approved projects must go through open tender processes. The tender process takes time,” he said.
Despite the delays, Sagah, who is Tarat assesmblyman, assured the public that projects under GKCDA would continue as planned.
He revealed that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had pledged additional funding should the agency fully utilise its current RM1.5 billion allocation.
“According to the Premier, if the RM1.5 billion allocation is fully utilised to implement all the projects, additional funds will be provided,” he said.
Sagah credited Abang Johari for establishing GKCDA, describing it as a major catalyst for development in Bidayuh-majority areas.
“With the RM1.5 billion allocation given to GKCDA, many projects will be implemented in Bidayuh areas,” he said.
He noted that the allocation benefits all Bidayuh communities, including those residing in constituencies represented by elected representatives from other ethnic groups, such as Tanjung Datu and Balai Ringin.
“We provide these allocations to them because they are also our people,” he said.
Sagah added that the Premier remains committed to ensuring development reaches all communities through the funds channelled to GKCDA.
