KUCHING: A local man was killed after his car crashed into the rear of a stationary pickup truck at a traffic light intersection along Jalan Sekama yesterday (Jun 23).
The fatal collision occurred at around 12.20pm after the Mitsubishi Trition had stopped at a red light, with preliminary investigations indicating that the victim’s Proton Saga, travelling from behind, lost control before crashing into the vehicle.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the impact claimed the life of the 67-year-old Saga driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
The victim’s body was taken to the SGH’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the 70-year-old Triton driver escaped unharmed in the accident.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have been taken to Traffic Police Station for further inspections.
Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
