KUCHING: Police have recovered a stolen motorcycle and arrested two men with prior records following a swift investigation into a motorcycle theft reported earlier this week.
The suspects, aged 25 and 33, were picked up in separate operations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Kampung Siol Kandis and Kampung Pulo on Jun 22 and 24.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests stemmed from a report lodged at 10.34am on Jun 22 over the theft of a Honda motorcycle parked behind the Rajah Caf building along Jalan Pending.
“Acting on information and intelligence gathered, police successfully tracked down and arrested the two suspects.
“During the operation, police seized a red-and-black Honda Wave fitted with a fake registration number, a red Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, and recovered the stolen Honda motorcycle that was reported missing,” he said.
Background checks found that both suspects have several prior criminal and drug-related records, and urine screening also found them positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Alexson advised the public to remain vigilant by parking their vehicles in secure locations, ensuring they are properly locked, and installing additional security devices to reduce the risk of theft.
Those with information related to the case are urged to contact the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
