MOSCOW, Russia: Russia and Ukraine exchanged 160 prisoners of war each, the Russian Defence Ministry said today, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
“On June 26, a total of 160 Russian service people were returned from the territory controlled by Kyiv. In return, 160 prisoners of war of the armed forces of Ukraine were transferred,” the statement said.
The returned Russian service people are currently in Belarus, and the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Yana Lantratova, is working with them, the ministry said.
“For the return of Russian service people from captivity, humanitarian mediation efforts were provided by the United Arab Emirates,” the ministry said.
Lantratova and Ukrainian Ombudsman, Dmitry Lubinets, met at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border during the exchange as part of the ongoing humanitarian dialogue, an RIA Novosti correspondent reported. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
