BAU: Telecommunication cables and equipment worth around RM30,000 was stolen at Jalan Jambusan here and police are investigating the case.
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the police have received a report regarding the theft on Friday (June 26) at around 1.23 pm by a telecommunication technician.
“The incident is believed to have happened on June 25 at around 3.15 pm when the technician arrived at the telecommunication station to do a recovery work due to network disruption.
“The technician noticed that a few equipment have been cut, damaged and stolen from the station,” he said.
Among the equipment were a set of rectifier unit, AC rectifier power cable, a few DCPD unit power cables as well as two battery banks, which is estimated to be worth around RM30,000.
Initial investigation believed that the suspect entered the station by cutting through the chain-link fence and made an entrance through the wall to gain access in the cabin.
The facts that allegedly led to this incident are due to the station located in a remote area further from nearby settlements and no security system.
The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code and Section 235 of the Communication and multimedia Act 1998.
Haide said no arrest was made and the search for the suspect is being intensified.
Members of the public are advised to relay any information in regards to the incident to the police.
The district police chief also urged telecommunications providers to update or improve security and monitoring systems at their respective stations to prevent such incident to happen.
