KUCHING: The Liga K-LSC has returned for the 2026 season, signalling the return of an annual grassroots football competition in this city.

The opening match today (June 28) saw Landas FC take on Yayasan Sarawak to mark the start of the revived six-team competition.

The six participating teams include Landas FC, Yayasan Sarawak, ZZ United, ABF U23, TBS 23 and KCFC Academy competing in a single round-robin format.

The final standings will determine qualification for the knockout stage of the Piala Presiden KDFA 2026, comprising the quarter-finals, semi-finals, final, and a joint third-place playoff.

Kuching Division Football Association (KDFA) president Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the return of the league is an important step in reviving structured grassroots football in Kuching after a period of absence.

He said the initiative is aimed at providing consistent competitive exposure, particularly for younger players, including academy prospects.

“This is the opening of the Liga K season for 2026. It has been quite some time since we organised this competition, and starting this year, Insya-Allah, it will be held annually,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met at the Taha Ariffin Stadium here today.

Fazzrudin added that the inclusion of Kuching City FC Academy — featuring mainly Under-17 players is part of efforts to give young players early exposure to competitive football.

“At least our academy players can start as early as 17 years old, playing in a competitive league,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the revived competition would attract more teams in the coming years as awareness and participation grow.

“This year marks the restart. We want to inform the football community in Kuching that this league will be organised every year, so more teams can prepare to join future editions,” he added.

The Liga K-LSC 2026 will run from June 28 to Aug 22, with matches held at KDFA Field, Field D and the Kampung Tunku Residential Field.
