KUCHING: KRFC Blackcatz have been crowned champions of the KRFC Rainforest 7s 2026 after defeating Sarawak Under-21 15-10 in a closely contested Cup final at the Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field here yesterday (June 28).
The victory capped an unbeaten campaign for the hosts, who produced a series of impressive performances throughout the tournament.
The hosts overcame Asajaya Rugby Club 10-7 in the semi-finals before denying a spirited Sarawak Under-21 side, who had earlier defeated Sibu Rugby Association 26-12 to reach the title decider.
Blackcatz began their knockout campaign with a commanding 34-5 victory over KRFC Thundercatz in the Cup quarter-finals, showcasing their attacking prowess before grinding out two hard-fought wins to secure the title.
Sarawak Under-21, meanwhile, enjoyed an impressive run to the final, first overcoming Blasta RC 12-7 in the quarter-finals before producing one of the performances of the day with a 26-12 victory over Sibu Rugby Association in the semi-finals.
Asajaya Rugby Club bounced back from their narrow semi-final defeat to claim third place in the Cup competition, defeating Sibu Rugby Association 21-12 in the playoff.
In the Plate competition, Blasta RC recovered from their Cup quarter-final exit to lift the trophy after defeating Wolfpack 27-12 in the final.
Wolfpack had earlier booked their place in the Plate final with a 15-7 victory over KRFC Thundercatz, while Blasta RC advanced after overcoming WORC A 12-0 in the semi-finals.
The Bowl title went to KV Matang, who edged WORC B 7-0 in a tightly contested final to round off the tournament.
