KUCHING: The Rotary Club of Bintulu Central (RCBC) has strengthened community-based dementia care by successfully concluding the fifth batch of its Dementia Care Skills – Train-the-Trainer (DCS-TTT) programme, marking the first intake opened to public participation.
Held from June 26 to 28, the three-day programme was organised in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM) and brought together 18 participants from healthcare and caregiving backgrounds who share a common interest in supporting people living with dementia and their families.
In a statement, the organising committee said the programme was designed not only to train presenters but also to build a sustainable support network for caregivers and families affected by dementia.
“What began as a healthcare-focused trainer development initiative has now expanded into the community.
“The successful completion of Batch 5 represents another step towards, as every new trainer represents another opportunity for caregivers to receive guidance, encouragement, and practical support,” it said.
The programme was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak (KPWK) and Aik Loung Land & Marine Electric Motor Works Sdn Bhd, enabling selected members of the public to participate in the trainer development pathway that was previously available mainly to healthcare personnel.
“The Alzheimer’s Care Project is guided by the theme Finding the Missing Pieces, where every trainer trained, every caregiver supported, every partnership formed and every community reached adds another piece to the puzzle.
“Piece by piece, we are building a stronger and more compassionate dementia care ecosystem for Sarawak, with upcoming programmes planned for Miri, Sibu and Bintulu,” it added.
