Bursa Malaysia remains higher at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-morning amid volatile trading, supported by buying interest in selected heavyweight stocks in the financial and industrial sectors.

At 11.03 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 1.34 points to 1,667.25 from Monday’s close of 1,665.91, after opening 1.37 points higher at 1,667.28.

Market breadth was unchanged, with 367 gainers matching 367 decliners, while 480 counters were unchanged, 1,476 were untraded, and 79 were suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.02 billion shares valued at RM600.55 million.

Among heavyweight stocks, Maybank rose four sen to RM10.84, Public Bank and IHH added one sen each to RM4.80 and RM8.41, respectively, Tenaga Nasional bagged two sen to RM14.28, while CIMB was flat at RM7.45.

Of the active counters, Zetrix AI was up one sen to 77 sen, and VS Industry inched up half-a-sen to 20 sen, while Liftech fell four sen to 25 sen, Dagang Nexchange edged down half-a-sen to 41.5 sen, and Tanco was flat at 14.5 sen.

On the top gainers’ list, Malaysian Pacific Industries surged 90 sen to RM50.00, Apollo improved 29 sen to RM6.14, Chin Teck climbed 20 sen to RM11.10, Vitrox increased 17 sen to RM7.70, and OCB jumped 13.5 sen to 99.5 sen.

Among the top losers, Batu Kawan dropped 88 sen to RM20.56, F&N slipped 38 sen to RM27.48, Allianz trimmed 34 sen to RM20.96, KL Kepong lost 16 sen to RM20.80, and Tradeplus fell nine sen to RM5.01.

On the broader market, the FBM Emas Index was 10 points higher at 12,389.91, the FBM Top 100 Index added 10.72 points to 12,223.81, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index improved 7.14 points to 12,259.66.

The FBM Mid 70 Index went up 19.52 points to 17,868.24, and the FBM ACE Index climbed 20.80 points to 4,810.09.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index rose by 18.13 points to 19,691.16, the Energy Index edged down 0.13 of a point to 747.37, the Plantation Index weakened 26.62 points to 8,799.02, and the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.99 of a point to 180.38. – BERNAMA
