SAMARAHAN: About 90 per cent of road infrastructure projects in the Gedong area are progressing according to schedule despite several implementation challenges.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state government was satisfied with the overall progress and remained committed to resolving issues affecting the remaining projects.

He said a monitoring committee chaired by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo had been established to closely oversee the implementation of projects in Gedong.

“We are satisfied because about 90 per cent of the projects in this area are progressing smoothly and according to schedule.

“There are some projects facing issues, but we will ensure they are resolved as soon as possible so construction can continue,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Proposed Construction and Completion of the Sarawak Second Trunk Road (SSTR) and a briefing on Gedong development near SK Sungai Bulu Senangeh here today (June 30).

He said sand supply for several projects had been affected by higher transportation costs following the increase in diesel prices.

“The cost has started to come down and we hope it will continue to decrease so the issue can be resolved,” he added.

According to the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, the 18.33-kilometre road project linking Simpang Rayang, Munggu Kopi, Tanah Puteh, Sebemban and Gedong had achieved 16.15 per cent physical progress for Section 1A and 9.01 per cent for Section 1B.

Works were progressing according to schedule as of June 2026.

Meanwhile, the 3.7-kilometre road upgrading project from Simpang Gedong Isthmus to Simpang Lubok Teranggas had reached 16.87 per cent physical progress.

Construction of the proposed four-lane dual carriageway from Kampung Benat to Kampung Lubok Samsu under Package 2, Section A, had recorded 0.04 per cent physical progress.

The section linking Kampung Lubok Samsu to the SSTR had achieved 13.14 per cent physical progress as of June 2026.
