Samarahan District Office seeks full account of bike challenge crash

SAMARAHAN: The Samarahan District Office will conduct a comprehensive review of the crash involving a car and multiple cyclists during the Samarahan Bike Challenge 2026 last Sunday (June 28) to strengthen planning, coordination and safety measures for future editions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday (June 30), the office expressed its deep regret over the incident and stressed that the safety, well-being and welfare of participants, officials and the public have always been the top priority throughout the organisation of the event.

According to the statement, emergency response teams and medical personnel were immediately deployed to provide prompt assistance to the affected participants.

The Samarahan District Office also expressed its appreciation to medical personnel, emergency responders, enforcement agencies, and technical officials for their swift action in managing the situation.

At the same time, the office is working closely with the Sarawak Cycling Association (SCA), the event’s technical partner, as well as enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, to gather the facts and establish a complete understanding of the incident.

The public has also been advised not to speculate or spread unverified information until investigations and fact verification have been completed.

The statement added that the findings of the investigation will be thoroughly reviewed to identify improvements in planning, coordination and safety measures for future editions of the event.

The district office also reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure future cycling events organised in Kota Samarahan meet the highest standards of safety, management and coordination.

Meanwhile, the office thanked all participants, strategic partners and the local community for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the handling of the incident.
