KUCHING: Malaysia’s e-commerce income grew 8.8 per cent to RM1.29 trillion in 2024 from RM1.18 trillion a year earlier, driven by stronger digital transactions across key sectors, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
The services sector remained the biggest contributor with RM639.8 billion, followed by manufacturing at RM635.5 billion, while construction and agriculture also recorded growth.
Chief Statistician Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the figures reflected digitalisation’s growing role in strengthening business resilience and competitiveness.
Business-to-business (B2B) transactions remained the largest source of e-commerce income at RM879.6 billion, while business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions recorded faster growth.
Domestic e-commerce income rose 9.2 per cent to RM1.15 trillion, while international income increased 5.2 per cent to RM138 billion.
E-commerce expenditure also expanded 9.4 per cent to RM625.3 billion, supported by wider adoption of online procurement systems and electronic payment solutions.
