KOTA BHARU: Two Indonesian women died after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in with four other individuals is believed to have skidded before crashing into a surau at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Jawa 2 on Jalan Selising-Bukit Merbau, Pasir Puteh, early this morning.
Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Azhar Helmi Mustofar said his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 6.34 am before mobilising seven members from Pasir Puteh station and six members from Ketereh BBP with two engines to the location.
He said upon arrival, firefighters found the SUV skidded before crashing into a surau located on the side of the road.
“There were six victims in the vehicle and all of them were Indonesians. Two female passengers in the back, in their 30s and 50s respectively, were confirmed dead at the scene as a result of being trapped with serious head and body injuries,” he told Bernama today.
Azhar Helmi said based on initial information, the male driver had a wife from Machang.
He said firefighters used special equipment to extract the two trapped victims before their bodies were handed over to the police for further action.
According to him, four other injured victims were sent to Tengku Anis Hospital, Pasir Puteh for treatment, while the rescue operation ended at 7.44 am this morning.
