SIBU: The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) has stepped up enforcement efforts against illegal street racing by launching a targeted Motorcycle Operation (Ops Motosikal) here following persistent public complaints over reckless riding and dangerous racing activities.
The overnight operation on Saturday (July 4), conducted by RTD Sibu’s Enforcement Unit, targeted several identified hotspots before culminating in a roadblock along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit, an area frequently associated with illegal motorcycle racing.
A total of 65 vehicles of various types were inspected during the operation, with enforcement officers uncovering multiple traffic violations involving motorcyclists and motorists.

Among the offences detected were riding or driving without a valid licence, failure to display the mandatory probationary “P” plate, poor vehicle maintenance, and other technical breaches under the Road Transport Act and related regulations.
Enforcement action was taken against all offenders in accordance with existing laws.
RTD stressed that it will not tolerate any form of illegal street racing or irresponsible road behaviour that endangers the lives of motorists, passengers and pedestrians.
The department said enforcement operations will continue to be intensified across the state as part of its ongoing commitment to curb illegal racing, improve compliance with traffic regulations, and enhance overall road safety.
Members of the public are also encouraged to cooperate by reporting illegal racing activities or traffic offences to the relevant authorities to support enforcement efforts.
RTD reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and orderly road environment through continuous enforcement operations aimed at protecting all road users from preventable accidents and unlawful activities.
