KAPIT: Four family members, including a young girl, had a narrow escape after the car they were travelling in plunged into a 20-metre-deep ravine along Jalan Nanga Mujong in Sempaling Balleh today.

An adult man and an adult woman sustained injuries, while an elderly woman and the young girl escaped unharmed.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said all four occupants had been rescued by members of the public and were taken to the hospital by their relatives for treatment.

The Perodua Bezza is seen at the bottom of a 20-metre-deep ravine after plunging off Jalan Nanga Mujong in Kapit today, July 5, 2026.

Firefighters from Kapit station were dispatched to the scene, about 60 kilometres away, following a distress call at around 2:00 pm.

The department said a Perodua Bezza, which carried the victims, had veered off the main road before plunging into the ravine.

As no victims were trapped, the team did not carry out any rescue operations.

Instead, they only secured the scene by disconnecting the car’s battery cable to prevent any potential hazards before wrapping up the operations.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operations at 3:07 pm.
