BINTANGOR: Three local men were arrested during an anti-drug operation here on Tuesday (Jul 7).
Meradong district police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the suspects, aged 18, 36 and 39, were detained at about 5.50pm by police while carrying out Ops Tapis.
“All three suspects were brought to the Meradong Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for urine screening, which revealed positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
Checks on their background found that none of the suspects had any previous criminal or drug-related records.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
DSP Tansli said police remain committed to combating drug abuse and trafficking in the district and will not compromise on offences involving dangerous drugs.
He also urged members of the public to cooperate with the police by providing information on drug-related activities in the Meradong district.
