KUCHING: Kuching Festival 2026 will feature four signature competitions aimed at promoting creativity, healthy lifestyles and community participation, reinforcing the annual celebration as more than a food festival.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the expanded programme reflects the festival’s commitment to offering diverse activities for people of all ages.

“We are delighted to announce four exciting signature events that will further enrich this year’s festival programme,” he said during a press conference on Wednesday (July 8).

“We want the Kuching Festival to be a platform celebrating creativity, healthy living, digital culture, sports and meaningful community engagement.

“The four competitions comprise the Kuching Festival Cosplay Competition 2026, K-Pop Dance Cover Competition 2026, Pokémon Trading Card Competition 2026 and MBKS Pickle Rush Kuching 2026, organised with strategic partners throughout the festival period.”

He added that the Cosplay Competition returns on July 25 at the MBKS Theatre, introducing two categories, Solo Coswalk and Solo Skit, following overwhelming public response last year.

“Attractive cash prizes, including awards for Best Costume and Crowd’s Favourite, await outstanding participants.

“The K-Pop Dance Cover Competition follows on July 26 at the MBKS Theatre, celebrating Korean pop culture while encouraging teamwork, discipline, confidence and creativity. Champions will receive RM2,000 and a trophy, alongside several special awards.”

For the first time, MBKS will organise the Pokémon Trading Card Competition on Aug 2 at the MBKS Lobby with Star Studio Sarawak and Isekai.

“Open to participants of all ages, the tournament promotes strategic thinking, communication skills, sportsmanship and social interaction.

“Another highlight is the MBKS Pickle Rush Kuching 2026, scheduled on July 25 at PicklePro Kuching, featuring boys’, girls’ and mixed doubles categories with cash prizes and special MVP awards for exceptional performances.

“We believe each of these events caters to different interests and communities, allowing people from all walks of life to participate and enjoy the Kuching Festival.

“Whether your passion is cosplay, dance, gaming or sports, there is something for everyone.” He also expressed appreciation to co-organisers, collaborators, sponsors, volunteers and organising committees, while inviting the public to support participants and experience the exciting programmes throughout Kuching Festival 2026.
