KUCHING: The family of 29-year-old Alicia Kho is appealing for help from the authorities after losing contact with her for nearly two months.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau Chief, Milton Foo, said the family is concern that she may not have reached her destination in China.
“Her parents only learned of the trip after Alicia sent a message saying she had arrived in Hong Kong.
“They said Alicia remained in regular contact with her mother through WeChat until May 17, discussing her children’s well-being, schooling and other family matters.
“However, all communication stopped after that date. Despite their repeated attempts to contact her, they received no response since,” he said in a press conference at Milton and Co. this morning.
Alicia, a divorced single mother of two children aged eight and six, is believed to have left for Hong Kong in April without informing her parents beforehand.
Her parents only learned of the trip after she sent a message saying she had arrived in Hong Kong.
Concerned for her safety, Alicia’s parents lodged a missing person report with the police on July 5 before seeking assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“They have also submitted relevant documents, including Alicia’s passport details and information related to her alleged travel plans.
“They discovered documents in Alicia’s room suggesting she had been communicating online with a man from China, through online gaming.
“They also found what appeared to be an invitation letter related to a China visit,” he said.
However, Foo said the parents feared Alicia may not have travelled to Hong Kong as she claimed and could have gone to another country instead.
He urged authorities to further investigate and verify immigration records, particularly whether she entered Hong Kong after leaving Malaysia.
“If she never entered Hong Kong, it becomes much harder to determine where she actually went. We don’t even know whether she is alive or dead,” Foo said.
Alicia’s two children are currently being cared for by her parents, with the eldest attending primary school and the younger child in kindergarten.
The parents appealed to Alicia to contact her family if she sees the news, saying her parents and children are deeply worried and waiting for her return.
