PADAWAN: Two men were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during three-hour operations conducted by the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division along Jalan Batu Kawa early today.
Padawan Police Chief, Supt Barry William, said the operations, which began at 12:01 am and ended at 3:00 am, involved a senior officer and 13 personnel.
He said the operations also resulted in 31 traffic summonses being issued for various traffic offences.
“The two local men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 after they were suspected of driving with alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit,” he said.
Barry said those convicted under the offence face imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for up to two years.
He said similar operations would continue from time to time to curb offences involving driving under the influence of alcohol.
He also reminded motorists not to drive under the influence of alcohol, and to comply with traffic laws for the safety of all road users.
