KUCHING: Kampung Sejijak is set to receive a RM44 million waterfront development, with RM20 million approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to kick-start the project.

Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the project had been included in a list of approvals announced by the Premier during his visits to various constituencies, and would now be processed by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) for phased implementation.

“God willing, I will liaise and work closely with the EPU to request that the implementation of this project be expedited as soon as possible,” he said when officiating at the 2026 Sejijak Regatta here today (July 11).

Fazzrudin also announced a separate land initiative by the PBB N6 Tupong branch to return land to villagers in Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh, which has also received the Premier’s approval.

He said the land survey to identify the affected plots has been completed, with the land currently being reacquired by the government before being returned to the villagers for their use.

Earlier, Fazzrudin congratulated the organising committee for successfully hosting the 16th Sejijak Regatta, which he said had grown from a small village event into one of the most anticipated tune-up competitions for teams preparing for the Sarawak Regatta.

The three-day event, which began on July 10 and concludes on July 12, features 15 teams competing in six categories — the seven-man, 10-man, 15-man, 20-man, 25-man and 30-man boat races — with total prize money of RM173,000 on offer.
