KUCHING: Sports remain one of the most effective ways to bring young people together, said Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How.
He said youth development remains a priority in his constituency and that community sporting events continue to play an important role in nurturing unity, teamwork and healthy lifestyles among young people.
See made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the Piala YB See Chee How Futsal Tournament 2026 yesterday, where he also commended the Saberkas Batu Lintang branch for successfully organising the tournament.
“Sports have the power to unite people from different backgrounds, as we can see from today’s event,” he said in a statement, noting that the tournament attracted participants from Batu Lintang and surrounding areas.
Saberkas Batu Lintang secretary and organising chairman Wilson Tan said the tournament provided more than just a platform for competition, fostering stronger community ties while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship among youths.
“Winning or losing is part of the game, but what matters most is that every match was played with respect, discipline and passion,” he said.
The tournament, jointly organised by Saberkas Batu Lintang and the Tabuan Laru Neighbourhood Watch Area, attracted 20 teams comprising about 250 youths, students and members of the public.
Wilson expressed hope the tournament would become an annual event. He also thanked See for his continued support of youth and sports initiatives, as well as the organising committee, referees and volunteers for contributing to the tournament’s success.
Saberkas Batu Lintang chairman Patrick Tan and PBB Pantai Damai Youth chief Adzim Rahman were among those present.
