MUKAH: A foreign labourer is facing drug and immigration-related investigations after police allegedly uncovered syabu in his possession at a construction site in Kampung Tellian Tengah yesterday (Jul 12).

Acting on intelligence on suspected drug abuse activities, the 21-year-old was arrested by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) during a raid at around 1pm.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a search on the suspect led to the discovery of a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 0.46g.

“The suspect was taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further action, where a urine screening returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and self-administration of drugs.

“Further checks also found that the suspect did not possess valid travel documents, prompting police to open a separate investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said.

Rizal said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Jul 17 to facilitate investigations.

Those with information on drug-related activities in their areas are encouraged to report to the Mukah police hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
