KUCHING: The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) has rewarded rising Sarawak shuttler Genevie Lim with a RM3,000 incentive following her bronze medal achievement at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2026.

In a statement today (July 14), SBA also noted that the promising youngster has taken another significant step in her badminton career after receiving an offer to join the national setup.

Genevie partnered Low Zi Yu to win the Women’s Doubles bronze medal at the continental junior championships held in Yatsushiro, Japan.

Her achievement comes as Genevie has also received an offer from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to join the national setup on a six-month trial, providing her with the opportunity to train and develop alongside the country’s top young players.

The RM3,000 incentive was presented on behalf of SBA by Honorary Secretary Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad in recognition of Genevie’s achievement and to encourage her continued progress at the national and international levels.

“We are very proud of Genevie’s achievement. Winning a medal at the Asian Junior Championships is a significant accomplishment and reflects her hard work, discipline and commitment.

“Her opportunity to join the national setup is another important step in her development. We hope she will seize this opportunity, continue to work hard and establish herself as a successful national player in the years ahead,” said Wan Khalik.

SBA President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar congratulated Genevie and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to supporting Sarawak players who demonstrate the potential to compete at the highest level.

“Genevie’s progress shows that Sarawak has talented players capable of succeeding on the international stage.

“SBA will continue to strengthen our development pathway and work closely with BAM and other stakeholders to provide our players with the opportunities and support they need to progress,” he added.
