KUCHING: The completion of the new extension block at St Joseph’s Private School marks a significant step towards strengthening Sarawak’s education ecosystem and preparing future generations for the state’s evolving economy.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new facility represents more than just additional infrastructure, describing it as an investment in the future of Sarawak through quality education and talent development.

“Today is not simply about opening another building, but it’s about celebrating a shared commitment to investing in the future.

“I do not merely see bricks, steel and concrete. I see hope, confidence, and a community that believes education remains the most powerful instrument for transforming lives and shaping the future of Sarawak.”

Abang Johari said this in his text speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during the officiating ceremony of St Joseph’s Private School extension block at the school on Tuesday (July 14).

He said the development provides a future-ready learning environment equipped with a multipurpose hall, modern classrooms, multimedia learning spaces, upgraded science laboratories, performing arts facilities, a music room, dance studio, expanded library, gallery and improved student amenities.

He said these facilities will encourage students to explore, innovate and become lifelong learners while supporting both academic excellence and holistic development.

He also acknowledged the role of private schools in complementing the government’s efforts to strengthen education in Sarawak.

“Institutions such as St Joseph’s Private School have, for generations, produced professionals, business leaders, educators, public servants and community leaders, while continuing to instil values such as integrity, compassion, discipline and leadership.

“As we continue implementing PCDS 2030, our greatest aspiration is not simply to build better infrastructure.

“It is to build better people, because the greatest legacy any government can leave behind is an educated, capable and responsible generation that is ready to lead Sarawak into the future.”
