MUKAH: Three local men working for a commercial goods delivery company were arrested after testing positive for drugs during an operation yesterday (Jul 15).

The suspects, aged between 23 and 35, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 11.30am in front of Mukah Tamu Market along Jalan Pasar Lama.

Although searches at the scene did not uncover any drugs or other illegal items, police became suspicious of the men’s behaviour and brought them to the district police headquarters (IPD) for preliminary urine screening.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the screening found the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Investigations found that the trio were employed as lorry drivers and attendants by a commercial goods delivery company.

“Background checks also showed they had between one and four prior drug-related offences,” he said.

Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

The offence carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of not more than RM5,000, as well as supervision.

All three men are being remanded at Mukah police lock-up to assist with investigations.

He assured that Mukah police remain steadfast in their efforts to curb drug abuse and urged anyone with information on drug-related activities to contact Mukah IPD at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
