KUCHING: A total of 600 students from three secondary schools in the Batu Kawah constituency, as well as Batu Kawah residents studying elsewhere, attended a two-day free workshop to prepare for the 2026 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

The Bengkel SPM 2026 Free Readiness Workshop, introduced by Deputy Premier and Batu Kawah assemblyman, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, in 2024, was held at the Ang Cheng Ho Quarry Multipurpose Hall.

Students from SM Min Lit Batu Kawa, SMK Batu Kawa and SMK Jalan Arang received guidance from experienced teachers on examination strategies, study techniques and other aspects of preparation.

Dr Sim thanked school principals, teachers and parents for supporting the programme.

“SPM is one of Malaysia’s most important academic qualifications, as it plays a crucial role in determining students’ future pathways in higher education and employment,” he said, urging candidates to remain focused and aim for good results.

He said Sarawak students, including those from Batu Kawah, had consistently performed well in the examination.

Dr Sim said the state government continued to prioritise education and talent development through assistance such as the Free Tertiary Education Scheme, scholarships, laptops and living allowances.

“By investing in the younger generation and equipping them with knowledge and opportunities, Sarawak is laying a strong foundation for a brighter and more prosperous future,” he said.
