SARIKEI: Kampung Selemas residents are set to benefit from an upgrade to Surau Darul Taqwa, a project aimed at improving facilities for religious and community activities.

Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister and Sarikei Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said the government would continue improving community facilities, including places of worship, particularly in rural areas.

“Surau are not only places for religious activities. They also serve to strengthen ties, foster unity and provide a meeting place for the community,” he said in a statement.

A site visit to verify the bill of quantities for the proposed works was conducted by Wong Soon Mee, representatives from the Sarikei parliamentary service centre, and officers from the Sarikei District Office at the surau on Wednesday.

Huang, who is also the Repok assemblyman, said the scope of work should be assessed comprehensively to ensure the upgrade meets users’ needs and delivers long-term benefits to the local community.

“The government development allocations and assistance were distributed inclusively, regardless of race or religion.

“The allocations are in line with efforts to ensure all sections of society benefit fairly from development,” he said.
